A MRD or Mandibular Repositioning Device, uses various means to reposition the mouth and treat sleep apnea. TAP 3 is like many MRD’s, in that it has two arches that enclose and move the lower jaw forward to open up the airways. However, TAP 3 is custom fit to your teeth, its two pieces napping together as it locks the jaws in place. This makes movement and speech more difficult; particularly when compared with other devices. However, the position of the device can be manipulated while being worn.
TAP 3 holds the jaw forward so the tongue and soft tissues at the back of the throat do not close off the patient’s airways. Smaller and more lightweight than previous versions, TAP 3 allows room for the tongue and lips to close. It eliminates snoring in over 95% of patients, and treats sleep apnea without the need for CPAP or surgery.
